Not 100% sure. My battery was "OK" (usual iOS battery life) before 11.4 after the "upgrade" it was just terrible! Like some other commentators. Full overnight charge to less than 20% in under 1hr.
Upgraded to 11.4.1 as soon as it was publically released in hopes it would address the issue but sadly it has not. My battery will completely drain in under an hour. If I turn anything on that uses Location Services the battery depletes frighteningly fast!
I swear Apple does this deliberately. They're not happy with iPhone X sales so now they slowly kill your older 2nd, 3rd generation phones to force an upgrade. iPhones were great while the mobile companies discounted them. Now, paying full price, over $2k for a couple of phones is not a priority. I do want to say thatmy rapid battery drain issues happened right around when the Battery (b3ta) features were introduced.
Still same issue after upgrading to 11.4.1
Full charge overnight. 100% to 20% in just under 2hrs.
A common theme in these threads is iPhone6S, I also have an iPhone6S. Perhaps it's mostly constrained to that model?
Really hoping Apple addresses in an upcoming patch. Daily I'm beginning to wish I wasn't so heavily committed to the Apple ecosystem. Droid is looking way better and their devices look better too. It's such a pain to switch from iOS to Droid ecosystem though. All my movies, music, photos. Locked in to a bad relationship 😕
This is SAD to say, The only way that I have found with 11.4 and 11.4.1 to conserve the battery is to turn off auto refresh, try to make sure no apps are running, turn off WIFI/ HotSpot, and go to low power mode. If then I only use it as a phone, text (with out data transfer such as pictures), and occasional email checks it can run without plugging in for hours. However, I am not sure how many hours at this time since I am not convinced this will be repeatable.
Apple needs to admit the problem and provide a plan for the fix NOW.
As much as I have been a faithful Apple consumer for years I am strongly considering the Google Pixel 2 as my next phone. I am currently comparing it to the LG products.
As I posted earlier, I was having the same rapid battery drain on a 6s with iOS 11.4, but updating with iTunes on my PC to 11.4.1 fixed it completely. Through the ordeal I restored my 6s to new iPhone status a couple times. Currently running as a new iPhone restoration with any apps installed new, not from backup. I suggest anyone still dealing with rapid battery drain try doing that. Maybe there’s something in your old 6s backup that 11.4.1 doesn’t like. There has to be some reason 11.4.1 fixes it for some and not others. Apple Support are you paying any attention to this lengthy forum thread?
Apple doesn’t really give a ****. If they would have they would have done something about it. People keep complaining and Apple keeps finding ways to put money in their pocket. How as a consumer with so many devices of Apple we are responsible for such an action. I was planning to replace my phone and upgrade to x but I don’t see it happening now. Have bought almost 7 iPhones for myself till now but I don’t see loyalty is every paid in Apple. Very sandend by this.
I have been following this thread for some time and done most of the suggestions - location services, background app refresh, but someone mentioned wifi being an issue and 6s. My experience if I left my 100% charged phone without charge overnight, it drained to 7% while unused locked etc. I went out of town and turned off wifi, problem solved! I returned problem reoccurred. I also connected to wifi 5G at home. I am now trying the standard wifi and it seems to be ok. I am still on 11.4, as I am not sure about 11.4.1! I wish Apple would at least be honest and let us know if they are trying to fix this bug with 11.4.1!
I am reporting that 11.4.1 has fixed the battery drain problem for my SE. I went to a 12 beta first to fix it and then to 11.4.1. The only way I knew to install 11.4.1 after the beta was to restore phone on iTunes on my Mac. Perhaps this installs differently enough compared with an installation over WiFi to have the desired effect. Others say 11.4.1 does not fix the problem but a few of us have questioned whether they used iTunes or WiFi.
So using 2.4G WiFi solves it for you. I said 11.4.1 fixed the problem for me but I have been using 2.4G WiFi at home when I used to use 5G. I don’t know what work uses but I have been here for 8 hours and the battery is at 96%.
BTW I noticed 11.4.1 changed the modem firmware version. I don’t know if that is used by WiFi.
I can confirm, that on 11.4.1 the poor battery perfomance has changed, at least for me, to the good. On 3 6s phones plus an Ipad Mini 4 (Wifi) the update delivered a stable battery perfomance, even better than 11.3.1. I've updated 1 phone via itunes and two OTA. The performance result is comparable without any issues for me so far.
Keep fingers crossed that it's going to remain stable...
Remark: I'm using a 5GHz WiFi network all the time.
Maybe it helps if everbody tell how much usage they get out of one full charge?
I can get 3 houres of usage out of one charge with 11.4.1.
With 11.4 it was 6 to 8 houres, mostly more.
Btw. i did a DFU Restore two times with iTunes and no backup and in my case it unfortunatley does not help!
After 11.4.1 fixed my 6s, restored with iTunes to new iPhone setup with 1 app added, it sat on the shelf last Friday, Saturday, and end of day Sunday the battery was at 64% without charging since Friday morning.
With all due respect it sounds like a flip phone might work for you.
My iPhone 6S never sits on a shelf and certainly has more than one App.
I bought it to use and compare the lack of performance to prior to IOS 11.4.
Lol, this 6s is retired from everyday phone activities, now serving as a music alarm hooked up to a Bose Wave radio. Purchased new in 2015 when 6s first came out, then handed down to my wife when I got a 7 plus, she now has an iPhone X. This 6s was replaced by Apple a few months ago when they couldn’t replace the battery because it was swollen. My first 6s was replaced under warranty by Verizon due to cell connection issues. That’s 3-6s’s and when the Guinius bar looked it up a couple weeks ago it showed new in 2015 even though it’s only a few months old. The 6s on the shelf replaces a 5s that was still running strong for a music alarm, the 6s is easier to read time across the room. At worst a few weeks ago on 11.4 this fairly new 6s would drain from full charge to red in 5 hours sitting on the shelf. I keep repeating that part about sitting on the shelf because it’s not doing anything to cause the battery to drain, I even had airplane mode on, but not anymore.
Thank you for taking my comment as intended.
I am extremely frustrated with Apple and their 11.4 and 11.4.1 IOS.
I too have noted that if I don't use then the battery might last long enough to make an emergency call if needed.
My wife's iPhone 6 is on 11.2.1 where is will remain. It is seldom being charged and the battery holds it charge. It does NOT have the Battery Health (Beta) and I wonder if that might be the cause of the drain since it is constantly monitoring the battery capacity. I wish I could delete this Battery Health (Beta) and it was included with 11.4 and continued with 11.4.1.
Apple really has done a great disservice to their customers by remaining quite and thought they were better than this.
Apple: Please confess, provide a solution, and provide a timeline so we can patiently wait.
Your silence is detrimental to your ability to retain your customers.
