iOS 11.4 battery drain

My iPhone 6 was working perfectly fine until I updated to iOS 11.4 and ever since I did that my battery is draining rapidly even without me using it at all. I used to go a full day without charging it now it may last half a day. I am just wondering if something got turned on with this new update that I have to turn off to save battery life. It is just weird I have not done anything other than update the iOS and now this happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue.

When I look at my battery performance, it shows that the personal hotspot on my phone is being used, though I have never turned it on. I have to keep charging my iPhone every 2-3 hours now.

For me its the opposite case when i was in 11.4 my battery kept on going down extremely fast.. 3%-4% every 5 minutes of use, not to mention the drain when your phone is just on standby, Happened both on cellular and wifi mode.

Things started looking up when I updated to 11.4.1 the battery decrease is lowered even when using or on standby. I am now on 4hrs usage with 93% battery out of 100%.

Take note reduce motion, email refresh, low power mode are enabled for my phone and location disabled.

Good Luck.

Already done that, also via iTunes...and nothing, it only saves power when stand by mode but using it, drains a lot. I have to charge mi iPhone 7 like 2 or 3 times in a day! Also, I have an old battery "smart" case from Apple, and this thing only charges half of a full iPhone charge during the day (and also it is old and broken...). Hope iOS 12 brings us a new solution.

When I updated unwittingly from 10.3.3 to 11.4 my phone needed to be charged at least 3 times in 24 hours! With the 11.4.1 I need to charge it about 2 times. Before any11.4 updates I needed it to be charged only 1 time! I am using a an iPhone 6s 32gb. So IMO 11.4.1 is slightly better than 11.4 but not anywhere close to 10.3.3! Apple, you need to fix these and rest assured I won't be updating (knowingly) to ANY major future updates EVER! Every time I upgrade, either the battery life is shot or my CarPlay stops syncing! I DREAD THE UPDATES! I WISH I COULD TURN THEM OFF FOREVER!

As previously reported, after updating to ios 11.4 I suffered for extreme battery drain. My iphone 6 passed from being updated once a day to several times per day. Moreover, the battery status passed from 97% to a mere 50% in almost 30 days. Battery drain happened both with WiFi on and off. Nothing was able to reduce the drain noticeably. All were just "like tears...in rain".

After updating to ios 11.4.1 things started improving, though my iphone was not the one I used to have with 11.3.

Therefore I went to a genius bar, where I exposed the problem and asked for a battery change. Most of the guys I spoke with were aware of the problem.

Now, after three days of usage I can say that yes, ios 11.4.1 has definitely improved the situation vis a vis ios 11.4, BUT performances are not as before. If I extensively use the phone the battery charge falls more rapidly than it used to be before. I think the new updates have shift hardware usage toward a higher level.
In a year or so this iphone will definitely need to be changed, but the way it's happening it's extremely frustating as I feel forced to do that.

Update: After upgrading to 11.4.1 my battery experienced similar problems to the majority of the people in this thread; rapid battery drain. Despite my battery being at 66% of it's Maximum Capacity (Settings > Battery > Battery Health), I still felt the drain was substantially more than when I was 11.3 just a week prior.

Anyway; took it to the Genius Bar and got a new battery. NOTE: Apple have reduced replacement from $79 to $29. For $29 I figured it's just not worth the hassle and switched it out.

The drain is still bad; but no where near what I was experiencing before.

Here is a update to share with you. I currently have 2 open engineering support cases. One is a battery concern, and the the other is a outlook calendar issue. Both of these concerns started last fall with the update of 11.0 (My 5s was updated around end Sept- Oct 2017).

It has taken months, months, and multiple visits to the apple store to finally have someone escalate my cases. As of today with update 11.4.1, I received a call from engineering that the outlook concern (Exchange server email & calander) was corrected. They indicated that numerous cases were submitted but none with the 5s. It seems that regardless of the phone , IOS 11.0 OS had numerous bugs. I asked about the battery and was given some relief that with update to 12.0 this fall, the battery & performance concerns should be corrected. If my 5s was unplugged overnight prior to 11.0 battery was around 90-85% after 6-8 hours. Now I will be lucky to see it above 40% and have had numerous shutdowns. I feel your concern but my suggestion is shut everything down (location services, wifi suggestion, ect) and use battery saver mode. I was offered BETA 12, but in the mean time I have my phone stable. I know that 3-6 hours is max usage with applications running. My suggestion, manage your battery life, social media, email, face time, ect to maximize phone performance. I was given no promises but Apple knows all of the issues with the update and was assured it is fixing it.

I have a new Iphone 6s bought last month as the last model with a headphone jack.

Installed IOS 11.4 this week and my battery life plummeted. The genius bar guys said my battery is good as new but they don't seem to comprehend IOS 11.4 is seriously flawed and will deplete a brand new Iphone battery in one or two hours of use even overnight left idle if not plugged in, This is disgraceful

So I just got the new iPhone 8 and I updated my phone to IOS 11.4.1 and right now my battery is worse than the battery on my old iPhone 6. Even when my phone is off the battery is draining, this is so annoying a new phone should be lasting at least a full day, but I’m only 4 hours into the day and my phone is at 40%. If Apple doesn’t fix this soon I’m going to start crying

The other issue that charging twice a day creates is the amount of "full charge cycles" your battery endures (since install). Anything above 650 and your battery health starts to deplete. (Settings > Battery > Battery Health > Maximum Capacity). If you're battery health is less than 70% Apple Care will simply recommend a new battery.

The problem is; you cannot see the amount of charge cycles your phone has been through until an Apple

Tech' runs diagnostics on the device at the Genius Bar.

But. If you're charging your phone twice a day you are definitely (rapidly) adding to the amount of full charge cycles and ruining the capacity of your battery. This problem is a problem compounded.

Apple really needs to address whatever battery drain was introduced in 11.4, some application or background service is depleting the battery faster than was accepted before.

My story was exactly the same. iPhone 6s, upgraded to 11.4 then 11.4.1. Battery almost instantly depleted. Took it to the Genius Bar; was told that my battery had endured 750+ full charge cycles and my battery health was 66%. Time for a new battery. I did explain that the full charge cycles had rapidly increased due to the battery depletion, but battery replacement was $29. Wasn't worth arguing about and I just got the battery replaced.

My situation is same after using my iphone 6s for 19 months now. battery discharge is rapid at the rate of 1% per each click when browsing which is pretty bad. tried complete reset yesterday but no luck. now the option left is to replace the battery with new and check IF its the same then go for a better other brand phone. Really iphones are weak in battery back up segment for sure they just doesnt match to the kind of internet usage these days

Moan!

I hoped that people would get in touch with Apple support rather than just post here because then they would really hear you.

I have been contacted via a separate email as to which build fixed the problem for me and I will reply appropriately. My history for this problem is in this thread.

Ironically I came from android and 1plus1 because an update killed my phone.
