Same situation for me. Didn’t even know it’s a software problem until after battery was replaced (and still had massive drain). I have been diligent to update to latest 11.4 and then 11.4.1 but this causes the battery draining problem (will wait a bit for future iOS releases).
The config reset back to factory setting helps a bit (still unimpressed given that I have a brand new battery now). Interestingly the factory setting has location services completely turned off. Also noticed whenever google map is used the battery drains pretty quickly. This is a wild guess maybe something with the location service part of iOS is causing this.
I think Apple really dropped the ball this time.
My iPhone 6S is as good es new.
My Battery Health is at 99% and CoconutBattery shwos 68 Load Cycles.
And i did a factory reset and i turned anything possible to off, inclusive WiFi for several days.
And the Battery is draining like crazy. Nothing of this was happening with iOS 11.3.x
Today 7 o'clock battery 100%, now is 11 o'clock - 27%
I sent several messeges by whatsapp, wifi off, bluetooth on, several minutes on Facebook - that is all.
Before iOS 11.4.1 I was about 80% on this time.
visited a istore a while ago to enquire about this battery draining issue. they say i can go for battery replacement but not sure after doing that the problem will get solved as its related to IOS 11.4. I really do not understand what apple is doing...sleeping ??
Sterling how nice of you to throw us under a bus. I had no battery issue until this latest upgrade. I don’t need to buy a new battery. I don’t need to jump through hoops to slow down the battery drain. What I need is for Apple to acknowledge there is a problem and fix it.
My kids have all switched to Andriod devices and I am the last holdout. Woke up to a dead iPhone 6S Plus this morning when my baterry was at 75% when I went to sleep. Problems started with iOS 11.4.1. Will not wait for Apple to fix. I will get a Pixel today.
I will di same. Pixel2 !
I spent yd the complete evening to somehow degrade to 11.3. however it did not work properly even with some hacks.
Than I questioned myself - WHY should I fix a problem that was created by the billion dollar company to get my mobile working again?
If apple did not fix it by now - and beta 12 has same issue yet - I think they will not look
Yesterday visited an authorised service center and ordered for new battery. it takes a week for the same, lets see if things improve after the battery replacement but i have my own doubts that discharge rate wont stop i feel and it looks there is no fix for the same in IOS 12 too. So its time to shift android very soon
Apple contaced me yesterday on a commemt I have written here in this forum.
So, they do reads or at least scan what we think about battery drain issue.
Instead of support they told me they deleted my message with bet#a release 12 not fixing the issue hundreds of users have. I must not communicate anything about issue in this forum here,
Unbelievable. No more money for apple products.
That act looks ridiculous to me. In todays world everything is transparent and open and users opinion matters a lot.
Instead of focusing on the problem, stopping one talking about it wont help apple in anyway instead they loose credibility in front of us for sure. I hope they also read my this message and take corrective steps as we all are users of apple from few years and valuable customers and i dont expect they suppress a voice of a customer.
Having experienced this severe battery drain issue first hand on a 6s that was only a few months old, I can assure you and Apple it is a real problem for some people’s iPhones. I tried Apple Support on the phone, and a trip to the Genius Bar without a fix. Fortunately for me 11.4.1 fixed the issue for mine, but it isn’t doing so for many others as shown by all of the frustrated customers on this forum thread.
Apple should read through this entire forum thread and contact the people that are still living with the problem. Offer to replace their iPhones with one that has been updated to 11.4.1 and tested to be working properly. Take those returned iPhones and distribute them to Apples senior level Support staff, and figure out how to fix this problem. Apple is losing dedicated customers with this unresolved and unacknowledged problem. I’m going to keep a screen shot of my reply in case it is deleted.
I have been dealing with portable devices for decades and here is my observation with regards to iOS 11.4.1.
Until evening of 31st July my iPad mini 2 was working and behaving as it should. That evening I responded to the popup message requesting update to 11.4.1 and granted permission. The battery was at 98%. The next time I tried to use it the battery was down to like 40 % dropping first to 19% then to 13 % and finally to 1% in a matter of a few seconds. I simply could not get it to charge or go beyond 1%. It would show the desktop for a few seconds, then turn blank and come up with full white screen and a bitten apple in the middle.
Then I read somewhere that if I powered it off while in charging state with the lightning symbol visible next to the battery level indicator it would remain powered off. That is what I did. The nest morning the level went up to 60% but within a minute it dropped to 1% and went back to its old behaviour.
This morning I repeated the same process and let it charge for like 12+hours. When powered it on it displayed battery at 100%. Now comes the strangeness of its behaviour. Now without any rhyme or reason it jumps switches the display between 100% and 1% totally randomly.
As long as it displays 100% applications run fine. Soon as it switches to 1% the display blanks out and seems like rebooting it taking place. There is no way the battery can go from 100% to 1% and then back to 100% in a matter of a few seconds and that too with no charging cable connected !!! Only conclusion I can draw is that Apple screwed up somewhere along the line in the application or the code that checks the battery level and triggers a routine. Apparently it also screwed up in another area. If the device is left on while charging some routine prevents the battery from charging. This is from the USB meter I placed between the charger and the cable that measures and alternately displays the charging voltage and current. This was showing 5.1 V and 0.000A. Certainly not a good sign. However when I powered off the device when it was in actual charging mode then the current displayed was 1.2 A.
The strange thing is also that it occurs different from day to day.
Last Saturday in the morning it was plugged in but very hot and 100%. I only listened to deezer music wireless. After 50 minutes without active display battery was 20%. I did not use the phone for anything else. Before 11.4 it was >12h.
Today, I sm using it at home actively since one hour with battery decreasing by only 7%.
At work today it was draining battery so quickly that only flight modus was possible to keep it alive.
Evidently there is something underhanded going on. It can't check for the originality and authenticity of the charging cable if the device is switched off. The device won't charge if it is left on. I had top power it off in charging state. May be the software code that checks for it or what measures and displays the battery level is to blame. How else can anyone account for the displayed level to jump between 9x% to 1% and back every few seconds? Why should it reboot when the displayed value is above 90% ? May be someone needs to hack the system and reverse engineer it to find if there is any code or routine that checks the manufacturing date of the device and behaves accordingly to scare and force the user into spending money to replace the device. I wouldn'd put it past Apple as they aim to reach $ 2 Trillion market capitalisation.
Yes,
It’s apples way of tricking you to buy into the new iPhone upgrade. I’m switching to android I’m tired of it I bought a new 6s just under a year ago and the battery life is unacceptable for the cost.
