I have the same issue with my iPhone X. Before upgrading to iOS 11.4 I needed to charge my phone every 2nd day, with normal usage. Now with 11.4, I experience a faster discharging of about 40%. This is very annoying. Turning off WiFi is not an option for me, because I am using WiFi at Office, when travelling on train and at home.
I hope Apple will fix this very soon.
I did reinstall iOS from the 11.4 IPSW file with iTunes but it was of no help. Overnight my battery went from 90% to 38% while on standby. Finally today I reverted back to 11.3.1 and everything is back to normal now. It appears to be a bug in the 11.4 that's what causing it.
Can we conclude that most people with the rapidly draining battery issue have an iPhone SE, 6 or 6S? Or not?
My 6S is model N71AP with the Samsung CPU. There was another model 6S with a TSMC CPU - N71MAP.
The 6S Plus Samsung is N66AP. The 6S Plus TSMC is N66MAP.
The SE Samsung is N69AP. The SE TSMC is N69uAP.
I use CPUDasherX app to reveal the device model.
Not sure is any of this makes a difference - whether only those with the Samsung CPU have an issue?
Or if the wifi or location chipsets are problematic in these older models with 11.4.
I have this problem on iPad Mini 4 and on iPhoneSE. Chatted/spoke with Apple. Reloaded upgrade via iTunes. Still have problem. At first, Apple guy suggested a new battery, but backed down when I reminded him it was both iPad and iPhone. Eventually agreed it was software. Said I have to wait for next upgrade.
This is definitely root of problem.
I was try reconnect my iPhone from WIFI 5G to WIFI 2,4G and it solved my problem.
I hope, that this will help apple resolve this bug.
I feel not like user of apple, but beta tester. I hope next time they will check release better.
After 2 more days the battery drain remained annoying on my Ipad mini 4 (WIFI). Neither switching off location services nor changing the WIFI network to 2.4GHz helped significantly. The consumption over night stayed at about 50%. I downgraded to 11.3.1. Now my iPad has reasonable consuption manners again :-).
Hi Phil_anthropist,
I have encountered the same conclusion: 5Ghz wifi has been screwed up in this update for iphone 6/6s. I think the SE devices are actually experiencing a different battery draining problem. Switching my iphone 6s to only a 2.4Ghz wifi takes its battery usage back to normal. My ipad air gen1 never showed a problem. Unfortunately, when I travel and don't have the luxury of forcing 2.4Ghz wifi, I'm not sure what I'll do (or others who have no control over their wifi signal).
Again, two nights in row (this is 4 days after updating, so it's not an "indexing" problem) my iphone 6s was between 80 and 100% charged and I woke up to it dead. Changed the wifi signal to only use 2.4GHz and it's back to normal battery usage.
11.4 cut my iPhone SE battery life in half. Happened on 2 different SE’s, but not on iPads. Luckily I was able to downgrade both phones to 11.3.1 just before Apple stopped signing it. Battery life immediately went back to being normal.
This is the worst experience I have ever had with a new version, including IOS 11 beta.

Same here.
With 11.4 I'm experiencing fast battery drain when wifi is up, *and* when i'm more than 10 meters away from my router.
When I'm close to the router, battery remain stable.
When using safari in my bedroom, 15m away from the router, battery usage is about 20% per 30 minutes.
I haven't noticed any differences between 2.4 and 5ghz, but most of the time I'm connected to a 2.4ghz ssid (for better range than 5ghz).
Also, before sleeping, I always set the phone to plane mode, and when I wake up, battery consumption is minimal (0 to 1%).
At work, I have no wifi connection, and battery usage is normal.
For me Wifi management is definitely the culprit.
Same problem here, iPhone 6s and iPad Mini 4. 11.3.1 was ok, 11.4 is terrible battery-wise. My iPad is dead by the morning (I used to charge it once every 3-4 days before), and I have to charge my phone several times a day. What’s even worse, Apple stopped signing 11.3.1 already, so there’s no way back.
I am having the same problem on my iPhone 6s. My phone could last all day and night. Now batery goes to 14 from 80 % through the night. And all this I became after I installed the update 11.4. Apple should serve the problem as fast as possible. it s not normal that I must charge my phone every morning after night after updating to 11.4 iOS my iPhone 6s that worked perfect before.
Same here. Battery is very unreliable, especially when any app is using Background Activity. I have a 6S with Battery Health of 84% which I know isnt great but with iOS 11.3 I could easily stretch out to a working day. With iOS11.4 I have to charge before lunch. For example my fully charged phone was unplugged at 7am this morning and now at 9:15am it's at 56%. Due to this software bug in iOS11.4 I'm going to have to pay to get my battery replaced.
Replacing the battery doesn’t solve this issue!
I’ll repeat: Replacing the battery wont solve the drainage problem. Read the replies, there have been already a few people who tried to fix by replacing the battery. This is a software issue. Save your money and wait for the update. Or if you have the 11.3.1 file, you can downgrade.
Ive got exactly trhe same problem since 11.4 update. My phone has been on 100% all day long today even though I have constantly used it !! Yesterday at 38% it just cut off. I plugged it in and it said 1% battery then it jumped to 25%. My wifes phone has done exactly the same thing since update too !! This is not just coincidence. Please sort it APPLE !!
