I bought a ddrum DD3X to play and record through Garageband 10.2. I can't get it to work. It telling me that one MIDI input is detected but no drum sound. The external microphone is picking up all the surrounding sounds but I can't turn it off. Any help will be appreciated.

if GB is getting input from a mic, then you have created/selected an audio track. you need to create/select a Software Track, and assign it a Drum Patch:

if they are all MIDI instruments, yes.
if you mean recording an actual Guitar, then you'd want an audio interface, and would record on an audio track
