Going crazy - Read Receipts Texts

One phone number - a friend with an android pone - keeps sending me back read receipts. I have read receipts turned off in my settings on my iphone 8 and have even gone so far as to delete all conversations and even removed her as a contact to stop it from happening. I have turned my phone on and off and I am STILL getting read receipt messages. Yesterday there were 20 of them in the space of 3 hours and we weren't even messaging each other!

Help!

Read Receipts are a function that is initiated by the one doing the reading. Turning off read receipts on your phone only means that your phone won't send a read receipt when you read a message.

Your friends phone is most likely the issue. Tell your friend to turn off read receipts on their phone.

The fact that you have your read receipts turned off means that people who send you messages will not see whether or not you've read them. You have no control over whether or not you get read receipts. You should suggest to your friend that they consult with their carrier about the issue.
