missing sync button

Upgraded to 12.7.5 v of iTunes and suddenly I don't have my mobile icon showing when my iPhone 8 running ios 11.3.1 is plugged in via USB. My computer recognizes the phone (I can see in Windows Explorer -Running Win 10) but iTunes does not. I did not have wifi sync set up. I need to be able to sync again, how do I get the icon to come back? I already tried multiple lightning cables and usb ports/restarting cpu and phone. What's the next troubleshooting step?
