Unable to upload live photos on macbook

I've tried all the suggestions in the community and my software is up to date on both my phone and macbook but my live photos aren't showing. I can only see grey boxes. Even repaired the photos library but in vain.

Ok so I'm uploading the images via a USB cable. My Macbook (Sierra 10.12.6), iPhone(11.4) as well as Photos(version 2.0) have the latest software. I've noticed this happening ever since i switched to the iPhoneX. When the cable is connected sometimes the live photos and some videos don't show up at all. I've repaired the photos library twice then the live photos show up once I connect my phone using a USB cable but they only show as grey boxes. Can only see old live photos in the side bar. If i double click it just selects the blank grey box for import.

Sierra 10.13.6 is well out of date (although this probably is not the problem now you are missing many features adn bug fixes by not being up to date )- the current version of the OS is High Sierra 10.13.5 with Photos 3.0. What are your iCloud settings on the iPhone? One guess is that iCloud Photo Library enabled in the iPhone, if you do then USB import will not work correctly - you either need ICPL enabled on the Mac and iPhone or disabled on the iPhone
