Why are title screens now on a grey background?

iMovies has recently updated and now all my title screens are on a grey background. Is anyone else having this problem?

Fortunately it is not a fatal flaw and you have found that you can live with it.

It appears that the app itself is not the cause, since you have deleted preferences and even reinstalled iMovie. It is possible that there is some corruption in the iMovie library that you are using. The iMovie library is stored in a folder separate from the app itself, from which iMovie accesses and assembles the data in a project when you click on the project icon in the iMovie app.

Try opening iMovie in a new or different library and see if the flaw appears there. To do that, open iMovie while holding down the Option key, and then choosing or creating a new library from the box that appears. iMovie will open in the library that you selected. Then create a project and see if the gray titles appear in preview.

Hi,

I've not seen this issue reported before. The titles should be displayed on black backgrounds. Sometimes with updates preferences get corrupted. Try opening iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys, and selecting to delete preferences in the box that appears. If that doesn't solve it, re-download iMovie by putting your present iMovie app icon in the trash (but don't empty the trash) and re-download iMovie from the app store. Upon a successful re-download you can empty the trash. Do not delete or mess with the iMovie Library. You want to re-download just the app itself.

Hi Rich,

Thanks a lot for the reply. I deleted the preferences, which didn't fix the issue, then I DLed a new copy. After both of these I still saw a grey background. I figured I would go ahead and export the video to see if it would be the same. Thank goodness it's not. The background on the title screen is black. It only seems to be like this in the preview. It's a bit annoying but I can live with it for now. I went and looked at other projects and they too have had their title screen changed to a greyish background. One project even had it's font changed. Luckily I've already finished that project and uploaded so it's not really an issue. It's just very strange. I hope it gets worked out on it's own. Thanks again for your time and advice. 🙂
