Gimp Installation on Mac High Sierra 10.13

I installed Gimp as directed by installing xcode and macports and running the command sudo port install gimp

But the program is not opening correctly via icon, or is it found in the Applications directory. When I re-enter the command in terminal, I receive "no broken files or ports found".

Is there something I am missing? I had it running before on this imac, but reinstalled as i could not add brushes to it.

The gimp runs well on my pc and linux computers. I prefer using the imac, if possible. Thanks

The only homebrew version of GIMP is v2.8.22 which is ancient, since the current version is 2.10.2. I was surprised that gimp.org has no compiled, downloadable version of the current (2.10.2) GIMP.

Whether with MacPorts or Homebrew, you are essentially compiling GIMP, and that is always iffy. If something is wrong in the source, or there is a compatibility issue with Xcode/Clang compiler, you will wind up frustrated. I would check back at this location periodically to see if they managed to provide a compiled, downloadable application and installer.

If your MacPorts installation process completed without errors, it should have left you with a double-clickable Cocoa application named gimp-app.app which you would then drag/drop into your /Applications folder.

Or for $50, you can get a more modern solution in Affinity Designer in the Mac App Store, which can use some Photoshop plug-ins. There is a free, fully functional trial available from the Affinity web site, on the bottom of the Designer product page. Not subscription ware. I own and use it.
