Can compressor downscale 8k footage?

Hello everybody,

Does anybody here know whether compressor is capable of downscaling 8k footage to 1080p? I am working with some RED Helium 8K red raw footage on a :30 commercial in FCPX. I can export an 8K ProRes 422 Master file out of FCPX no problem. But when I bring that file into compressor to create a 1080p h264 for web upload, the batch keeps failing and I get the following error message:

Failed: 3x CRenderBuffer::CRenderBuffer attempting to be constructed with NULL pointer

I'm on a trash can mac pro late 2013, 32GB ram, D700's, 6-core processor, Sierra 10.12.6

Anyone else encounter a similar issue?

Thanks in advance!

If you have drives with less than 15-20% free space, then you can encounter errors. That space is used by the OS and apps to read/write hidden working files. System drive is the critical one, and it seems fine. I'd worry about that RAID being so full. Thinking that remaining 1TB is all yours to use as you please, that's a bit misinformed. I'd call that RAID filled to the max, as your limit is 1.3 TB of free space.

As a start go into the Compressor preferences, to the advanced tab. You'll click the Reset Queue button twice. The first time you'll delete all jobs, however that is worded. The second time you'll chose Repair Compressor. Relaunch Compressor (I like to reboot my Mac, too) and see if that makes a difference.

AND, personally, I'd make a custom preset and do this inside of FCPX.

Thanks Ben,

My system drive is approx 50% free and the RAID all my media/export is around 12%'ish -- about a terabyte free out of 9 total TB. The file I'm compressing is small, only about 5GB, so it doesn't seem like a space issue....any insight into what the error message is that I'm getting? "Failed: 3x CRenderBuffer::CRenderBuffer attempting to be constructed with NULL pointer"

Maybe I should just try uninstalling/reinstalling compressor

Thanks Ben,

I tried all your suggestions -- reset/repaired compressor, cleared out my RAID to 1.6 TB free space, also tried copying the 5GB source 8k prores master file to a completely new/clean bare 3TB media drive and compressing/rendering it out to that -- but it's continuing to fail and to give me the same error message:

Failed: 3x CRenderBuffer::CRenderBuffer attempting to be constructed with NULL pointer

When I googled that error message, I found another post on the forums here: 'CRenderBuffer attempting to be constructed with NULL pointer' error in Compressor

where other folks are indicating it might be a graphics card VRAM overload issue...but I was under the impression that the D700's should be able to handle 8K since they have 3GB VRAM each...puzzling...especially since it works when I run the file through Handbrake

Any other suggestions? Thanks again.
