Blocking pop-ups in Safari

i'm using an iphone 8 and get constant pop ups from fake amazon contests that are driving me crazy. it's gotten to the point that i can't use safari at all anymore, which isn't very convenient since apple defaults to safari. i installed the firefox app on my phone which works fine, but i have to manually open it every time i want to use it. i've tried resetting my device, updating software, clearing the history/cache. i also blocked pop-ups, turned on fraudulent website warning, etc., etc, etc., and NOTHING works. i see other people have been having this problem for quite some time, too. does anything work? thank you

iPhone 8, iOS 11.4

1. Force close Safari application. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201330

2 Clear History Caches and Website Data. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201265

3. Settings > Safari > Search

Turn off Search Engine Suggestions,

Safari Suggestions,

Quick Website Search

and

Preload Top Hit.

4. Highlight and delete the entry in the Safari’s search bar.

Press spacebar key on the keyboard few times.

Enter the URL for the site manually and then “Go”.

Test for a while.

Repeat step 4 for all sites that manifest the problem.

After a while, re-enable those disabled Safari search options.
