A change to the forums some months back has made embedded images almost impossible to view. When clicked on, you get a scaled down, soft, pixelated view instead of the actual image 1:1. The larger the placed image, the worse the proxy view is. To get around that, drag the image to the desktop and view it in Preview, or other raster image app.

The main point of the first image is the results of an AMD 7950 from the benchmark app, GFXBench Metal. It shows the various results of running Metal APIs on the card, proving it does support Metal while installed in a 5,1 mid 2010 Mac Pro.

I just picked up a 7950 yesterday from eBay. I think they're going to get scarce, quick!

"MacOS Mojave has not yet been released in production and that Apple has no formal recommendation regarding GPUs for Mac Pro 5,1 systems at this time."

I do find that line of dialogue most unprofessional on the part of Apple. Begs a retort, "is there an informal recommendation?"

Unfortunately, the eGPU route requires Thunerbolt3 attached to Bus and CPU, and that upgrade is not feasible on MacPro5,1.

I am equally surprised that vendors have done little on their part, after all, it is they and not Apple which gets to sell the hardware and profit. I found two hardware sites with ample profits and scary prices.

Starting with KurtLang suggestion... These are the two places I've found new cards with claims of working on MacPro5,1. But the price point is not conducive to random experimentation on (beta) Mohave and MacPro5.1 or flash-forward MacPro4.1 that runs HighSierra. No word on Metal-2 support, and not merely Metal support is yet another monkey-wrench.

So am waiting for Apple and its Vendors to clarify this mess they created. Sorry Apple, you're not doing us any favor or charity, that demands us to wait like starving children in Africa for the whitman's largesse. This is Apple's DUTY and they are DERELICT.

I am in need of a new iPad, but this kind of brahmanism that President Nixon once hated, is not going well with me. So, I am not spending a measly $400 on iPad on account of this MacPro5,1-GPU-Issues.

I just don't trust Apple anymore.

"Apple could use a good famine," as Richard Nixon would say.
