Hey there, pfekula,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that you are having some trouble with the display of your MacBook Pro. Specifically, after using it in closed lid, the display is just black. You're able to interact with the computer, activating Siri for example, but can't use the display. I'm happy to help!

Based on what you've described, I would recommend the following steps. Try them in order, testing after each is completed to see if your display works as expected. If not, proceed to the next step:
  1. Verify your display's brightness is turned up: macOS Sierra: Adjust your display’s brightness
  2. Restart your Mac: How to turn your Mac on or off - Apple Support
  3. Reset the NVRAM: How to reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
  4. Reset the System Management Controller, or SMC: How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support
Each of the articles guide you through the recommended step. For the NVRAM and SMC resets, the related articles will also give you information on what those things do, and why resetting them can be helpful.

If you're still not able to use your display after the above steps, don't hesitate to respond back.

Cheers!
