Apple Watch Band Size

I would like to buy a series 3 Apple Watch 38mm. However the band is too tight. Am I correct in saying that in order to find a band that fits I would need to purchase the 42mm that looks way too bulky on my wrist?

The page of bands at Buy Apple Watch Bands - Apple shows the size fit range if you click on each band that interests you. Measure your wrist and make your own judgement.
