Apple Watch waiting for messages to be transferred from your iPhone
Apple Watch Series 3, iOS 11.4
This appeared on my Apple Watch after I updated my phone to 11.4. It went away after:
*) I went to the Apple Watch app
*) clicked Mail
*) scrolled down to "Include Mail", and clicked it
*) selected a folder that was not already selected (I picked "Flagged")
*) deselected Inbox
*) backed out of the Mail section
*) Opened mail on watch, which displayed "No messages" (Since there aren't any flagged in my mailbox)
*) Returned to "Include Mail", selected Inbox and deselected "Flagged"
*) After a minute, my inbox messages appeared on my Watch.
Hope it helps!

You did not say mail, you said messages. If you are referring to email, are you getting email on the phone? If you go to the Watch app on the iPhone, then into General>About, how much storage space do you have on the Watch?
Very true, and I was going to address that, if they were considering syncing old content, rather than current content. I'm waiting to see what the mail issue is here, especially since it could be a space issue as well.
I do not know what you mean by that. The watch and phone have always been in sync and I still receive texts. I have storage space of 10.8G, so that is not the issue. It only began with the iOS update to 11.4.
Okay, let's start over again. You have repeated your first response to me, and only added the space I inquired about.
Are you referring to mail, text messages, or both? Did you do anything except update the software on the iPhone?
I've never seen that message before when it came to mail. Have you verified your mail settings in the Watch app? Have you tried powering the phone off and back on again? The next to last step would be to unpair the watch from the phone to create a backup, then pair it again and restore that backup. The last step would be to unpair the watch, then pair it again and set it up as a new watch.
Start with the simple things, I will assume you are using Apple’s default Mail app on your phone. Please check settings in (iPhone) Watch app, My Watch, Mail and make sure it is Mirror my iPhone and including all the relevant mailboxes, click on Include Mail to see details.
Did you activate Messages in iCloud?
I restarted both devices but get the same message on the watch.
I do not know what you mean by that. The watch and phone have always been in sync and I still receive texts just not email.

Sadly, that still doesn't support the Apple Watch.
It is only email. Text messages are fine. This occurred after updating to 11.4. Thanks for your help.
Yes, it all looks right.
I’ve done everything except unpairing.
