I'm not longer getting notifications for iMessages received from one specific contact. I've verified this by turning on read receipts and this particular sender is seeing that I'm immediately reading the messages after they are sent.
Do Not Disturb is not on and I do not have alerts hidden for this contact.
I have an iPhone 7 on iOS 11.4

So you and the other party couldn't be mis-construed as one and the same party by virtue of links or circular relationships within Contacts? Well then take a look at this report having to do with simplex versus duplex location sharing:

Otherwise I'm confident that this fault effect will be fixed in iOS 12 which is, of course, right around the corner.
Yup! It goes away and then the issue comes back and it's always with the same person. I still don't have a fix...
I think you should try to back up your iPhone and rest it...try it hope this will help..!!
It happened to my husband phone. He have iphone 7 plus. All i did was delete all his messages...and it went back to normal. Hope it will work...😊

I understand, but U only delete the messages of the specific person that u have a problem in receiving messages.
Interesting. We don’t share any info on our contact cards, but we are set up for Apple family. Could that be the issue??
ETA: our contact cards also link each other as spouses.
