Auto/Lock Not working under Guided Access

My 5yr old uses his 9.7" iPad (MP2J2LL/A) as an AAC speech device. It's in essence his voice because he is non verbal. We have his speech app under guided access so it is the only app installed on his ipad. After the last OS update, the auto sleep/lock function (which was working before we updated to the latest OS) has stopped working which is draining his battery and making it a challenge for his voice to last through the day. (with the auto sleep, a single charge would work 2-3 days). My son is unable to manually lock/sleep his device. All the settings are correct and have not changed. Is there a fix in the works? This is his voice after all. Please advise!

***I just tested before positing ... The auto/lock setting in display is set to 2minutes ... 20 minutes later , it has not gone to sleep.***

I believe it’s in September or October after they unveil the new iPhones.

It was not fixed in my update to iOS12... are you sure? What are your settings and what device are you using... what app? 15minutes? Really?

Ok, for whatever reason the Autolock/Sleep started working after the iOS had been downloaded for a couple of hours.

That doesn’t make any difference. That’s only for the kind of cases or covers that trigger the Sleep/Wake function.

I'm trying to accomplish the opposite unfortunately. I want iPad to stay on 24/7.

Same problem here for our daughter, this is her voice and the auto lock feature does not work when guided access is enabled on her ipad

My understanding from Assistivewear (makers of Proloquo) this should be fixed with iOS 12 release. but definitely it has been poor response time. Moving forward I won't be updating OS's until I verify it works appropriately. Poor response time. It has been close to 5months since the bug creeped in on iOS 11.4 update. I have been very disapointed but nothing else I can do right now. Apple has us by the you know what on this. Very disappointed.

yes, tested with wall mounted ipad air and iphone 7. One connected to constant power, the other on battery only. In both cases after 15-20 mins, the screen goes dark. I used the calculator app for a test on the iphone and used a home automation app in the case of the wall mounted ipad.

Settings (on iphone): Display & Brightness->Auto-Lock 30 secs

Guided Access: On

Guided Access Options: Sleep/Wake button: On, Motion: On, Keyboards: On Touch: On, Time Limit: Off

This is driving me crazy! Our iPad has changed since yesterday's iOS12 update. Now the On/Off button does nothing when Guided Access is turned on. I have Auto-Lock set to 2 minutes. With Guided Access turned on, I just timed it: after 9 minutes + 30 secs., it dimmed and then 15 secs. later it went to sleep. Home button turns it back on.

But now that the On/Off button no longer works in Guided Access, we can't turn off the screen manually anymore. Why, Apple, why?? Why bother giving us a choice of Auto-Lock times if they are meaningless?

betiux, is yours going to sleep at all? Is your On/Off button working in Guided Access?

Looks like this is fixed in iOS 12. The ipad does eventually go to sleep (15 mins or so?). Tested on both ipad and iphone and works the same.

I also have this issue due to the bug that came out with the IOS 12 update. Is there any ETA on a fix?

jtweeks, can you explain how to get to that setting? I’m on the “options” for guided access where the different toggles for like sleep/wake button etc are, but there’s nothing about auto-lock on it.
