How to merge folders in high sierra

I am stumped. I have checked everywhere and cannot find out how to merge folders in Finder, in High Sierra. Evidently it is no longer easy in High Sierra. Holding down the option key while moving a folder into another no longer gives the "merge option".

I have folders with the same name in a fee locations. But there are newer files in some of them. I wish to merge them all, but keep only the most recent of the files.

Does anyone know how I can achieve this?

Thanks!

Jim

You could try this, it is for Sierra, but should work

macOS Sierra: Organize files in folders

Merge two folders with the same name

If you have two folders with identical names at two different locations, you can merge them into a single folder.

Press and hold the Option key, then drag one folder to the location that contains a folder with the same name. In the dialog that appears, click Merge. The Merge option appears only if one of the folders contains items that are not in the other folder. If the folders contain different versions of identically named files, the only options are Stop or Replace.

The trick is to drop the folder into the LOCATION where the other folder is while holding the option key.

Edit, although that may not be helpful if you have identical files in both folders.

I am on 10.13.6 (17G65)

I created two folders in two different locations

both called TEST

placed five files in one TEST folder

placed eight files in the other TEST folder, some with some same name, some with new names

then using option key, select TEST and place it in same LOCATION where the new folder is

(do not drop it on top of the duplicate TEST folder).

Hi, Jaykumar, Not that I know of.

It is not as easy as it looks if you miss a step. You have to have two folders with the same name in two different locations and one of the folders has to have items that are not in the other folder.

Create two folders in two different locations.

call folder each TEST

put the same two files in each folder

add one new file to the first folder

then using option key, select TEST and place it in same LOCATION where the new folder is

do not drag the TEST folder on top of the duplicate TEST folder,

instead, drag the TEST folder into the new location where the other TEST folder is.
