I go for 3 mile walk and exercise ring never moves

Every time I walk like 2 or 4 miles my watch only counts steps does not count as exercise how do I fix this! I have series 1 watch

iOS 4.3.1

Make sure your Apple Watch software is up to date > Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support

And make sure your iPhone iOS software is up to date > Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

And here > Calibrating your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy - Apple Support
