This is not working on macOS High Sierra, Finder Window, Icon View:
"Select multiple items that are listed together: Click the first item, then press the Shift key and click the last item. All items in between are included in the selection"
It works fine on macOS High Sierra, Finder Window, List View

Correct. In icon view, by definition nothing is "listed together", I guess. To select multiple item in icon view you should either drag your cursor around to select things, or you should command-click on each item you want selected.
