iPod Not Showing up in Windows Or iTunes

Everytime I connect my iPod to my computer it never shows up. I have restarted my computer, reinstalled itunes and have even looked for a update to restore my iPod. Nothing works. Im not clear on what the problem is. This iPod is new and has never gave me any problems until now. Why won't it show up when I connect it? My iPod is a 80Gb video. Thanks for any help given.

Yep, all of them are using XP SP2 and iTunes 7.1.1 and Quicktime 7.1.5, with the latest firmware update. And most of them have Dell computers.

If Apple didn't care they wouldn't replace your iPod, a company that didn't care (and I've had dealings with some of them) would not replace it all.

Yes, that is support replacing them. And do I believe you have gotten 10 of them since Christmas? No.

Do I believe you are a computer technician? No.

I'm not even sure you are an adult.

I don't care what you believe. And I do even think I'm older than you.

But I've got 10 replaced iPod's since 15th of December. And to me, that is NOT support. It's an easy way to "fix" things without solving them.

As I also mentioned, we don't know yet what driver that want work with XP SP2 and iTunes. Might be some other software.

I work for a computer company with 30.000+ employee's and I alone have respoonsible for 80 servers at a global customer. What do you call that?

This question says that it is answered when it clearly isn't. it seems this problem has arised with the latest versions of iTunes and iPod software, like everyone else my iPod works fine but will not connect properly!
No-where have I found anything that has remedied this problem!
My iPod is out of warranty now, it is a 60gb video, and I am frustrated that I can't fix my iPod!
Does anyone have an email address to contact a human at apple?
If apple can't help when this is a clear wide spread problem I say we all buy a microsoft zune! They are stylish too!

NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. NOW THAT I SEE THAT OTHERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND ARE HAVING THEM REPLACED, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE WARRENTEE IS UP DO THEY STILL REPLACE THE IPOD. I DID BACK UP ALL OF THE MUSIC LIBRARY. UNINSTALLED ITUNES 7.1 AND REINSTALLED THE ORIGIONAL SOFTWARE. THEN IT SAID THAT MY LIBRARY IS FROM A LATER VERSION OF ITUNES AND I CANNOT USE MY MUSIC LIBRARY. DO YOU THINK THEY WILL REPLACE IT IF OLDER THAN 0NE YEAR?

I SURE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO GET AN ANSWER FROM APPLE TOO.

I am dealing with the exact same scenario as sigany. The iPod isn't recognized in iTunes or in My Computer, and whenever I reconnect the iPod I get the error message "USB Device Not Recognized."

The Apple Store replaced my 30G video iPod yesterday, and I purchased the AppleCare Protection Plan so I could get unlimited phone service. Thus far, they have been of no help...just try to keep sending me the same articles available on the Apple website. But I have to think someone, somewhere is working on this problem?!?? The most annoying part for me is that I had no problems for 9 months. Then, ast weekend, I get the prompt to update my version of iTunes. Voila, now it won't work. Moreover, all of my music is trapped in iTunes and I have a brand new but completely empty iPod.

WAIT...just as I write this, I try to reconnect the iPod again and it appears in iTunes and begins syncing in iTunes. WEIRD. I have been screwing around with this for 3 days and this is the first time it has showed up. WAIT...it failed and halted. "Windows- Delayed Write Failed" error prompt. Reconnected it, it started again. WAIT...failed again.

If anyone that knows more about computers than me sees something in this turn of events, I would be MOST appreciative for a tip.

I was watching the TV show "Call For Help" today, when someone called in with the problem most of you seem to be having - iPod doesn't show in iTunes or My Computer - and thought I would relay the answer the host of the show, Leo LaPorte, gave.

The possible cause:The new version of iTunes installs a defective USB driver or screws up the generic USB driver. That's why your computer doesn't recognize the iPod.

The fix:Uninstall iTunes. You may also want to go into the Devise Manager and remove the USB controller. Reboot and the computer will install the USB drivers again. Install a music manager like MediaMonkey. This program can do most everything iTunes can, even a few things that iTunes can't.

You should probably back up the iTunes library file and the play lists before uninstalling. That way, when the problem with iTunes is straightened out, you can go back to iTunes if you want.

I know this is not a fix, but it will at least allow you to sync and add new music to the iPod.

i also tried every suggestion on the support pages to solve this problem (two different computers with two different versions of itunes wouldn't recognize my ipod). finally - i tried what one user suggested and under "settings" on my ipod i selected "reset all settings," and now my computer is recognizing my ipod beautifully! too simple - but it worked.

I have the same problem as several people has reported in this string: my Ipod appears in MyComputer, but not in iTunes. When I click on the Ipod drive in MyComputer, I get the error message: “I/O devise error”. I have tried everything in the string: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60950 incl. reset, reinstall iTunes, other USB, delete everything in Temp folder etc., but still no progress.

Does anybody have an idea of how to solve this problem? Some people in here have suggested to reinstall W XP, install iTunes 6.0 or use Mediamonkey – has anybody tried this with success?

My Ipod has worked fine for 1½ years, but when shifting to a new PC, this problem appeared.

I have: W XP SP2, IBM T43, iTunes 7.11, IPOD 60GB, 4g

I have the same problem with my 30GB iPod not registering in Windows or in iTunes since I updated to iTunes 7.1.1.5. In my case when I plugged in my iPod not only did iTunes not recognise it but iTunes froze and my whole laptop slowed until I forced iTunes closed.
I have tried all remedies previously mentioned but no success. The 'reset all settings' has not worked either but at least iTunes does not now freeze when I plug my iPod in.

My iPod works with my daughters laptop operating on Windows 2000. Is this therefore a problem with the new iTunes and Windows XP? I notice all the other people here are running XP. If so is this a bug and can Apple release a fix?
