Copy and paste for pages to number

Can't Copy & Paste written Text from Pages(7.1) to Number(5.1) with new update like old version.

Now it puts everything in one column box instead of tab spacing across corresponding column boxes.

But it still does space writing (Pages) in rows (Number) but not column.

Is there a button I have to click to change the copy & paste function for tab written spacing.

Hi T,

Mysterious goings on in Pages 7.1 and Numbers 5.1 (new "features" that we must adapt to, possibly due to feedback on opening "foreign" files such as CSV (Character Separated Values).

If you have a very simple Pages document (for example, a single table), save the document.

User uploaded file

In Numbers 5.1, Menu > Open > Pages Document Name

User uploaded file

User uploaded file

Just like Word and Excel!

Yup, we have finally got what many users asked for. A way to choose how a table is imported.

Ian.

Hi T,

I retested the method in my previous reply and it didn't work. I thought I had it, but perhaps I mistakenly opened a "Fred" document that was not a Pages document. I have too many "Freds" on my computer. I must do a clean up.

The work around I'm using at the moment is copying the text from pages, and paste it in NOTES (Add table) which evenly spaces the tabs into column cells and then copying it from NOTES into Number.

That seems to be a good workaround.

Question:Where is the adjust import setting Tab in the side bar in numbers

I too would like to bring up that Adjust Settings dialogue for any table, any time. But this is just plain wrong:

In the Format User uploaded file sidebar, click the Table tab, then click Adjust Import Settings.

A message pops up when a table is imported

User uploaded file

If you wait too long, before clicking on Adjust Settings that message disappears and there is no way to bring it back.

(Sigh)

Ian.

Hi T,

I agree. Tab characters used to space text into separate cells. Now they don't.

Please send feedback to Apple:

Menu > Pages > Provide Pages Feedback, or

Menu > Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback.

Provide a link to this thread Re: Copy and paste for pages to number to help the Apple engineers understand this problem in Pages 7.1 and Numbers 5.1

the blue arrows in between the number/Letter

The blue arrows (in my screen shot) are Tab characters.

Menu > View > Show Invisibles to see the blue arrows (and spaces and paragraph marks).

Menu > View > Hide Invisibles.

Hi Ian

Thank for the information, What you have shown me above is what I use to do up until the last up date in numbers & pages, now I have to individually copy and past each word into each cell.

The only thing that look different is the blue arrows in between the number/Letter is there a button to click to install these.?

Kind Regards

T

Hi Ian

Is this

(new "features" that we must adapt to, possibly due to feedback on opening "foreign" files such as CSV (Character Separated Values)

Meaning that this is the way it is from now on or that we can change it but need to change the import setting box tab

if so

How do I get to this import setting box

-----------------------------------

Apple Number Help

Change settings for a delimited text file

  • Drag the file to the Numbers icon in the Dock or in the Applications folder.
  • Click anywhere in the table to select it.
  • In the Format User uploaded file sidebar, click the Table tab, then click Adjust Import Settings.
  • Click the Delimited tab in the Import Settings window.
  • Select one or more delimiter options next to Separate Values Using, or enter a custom delimiter.A delimiter is a character that defines column breaks.

---------------------------------

I can't find the Adjust Import Setting Tab in the format sidebar

Thanks again for the help on this problem Ian
