I don’t remember of hitting the “hide alerts” button to one of my contacts. It’s a half moon icon by the text messages of this contact. This means that person turned the hide alerts button on me?

I found a half moon icon by one of my contacts messages thread. I don’t remember turning on the “hide alerts” button for this contact. Does this means this person turned the “hide alerts” button on me?

No, it means that you set Hide Alerts for that conversation. It can only be done from the phone. It can't be done remotely. Nothing the sender of the messages does can affect your notification choices. It's not that hard to do it by accident, though.

To remove it, from the main conversation screen in Messages, place your finger on the conversation that is muted. Pull to the left. Tap "Show Alerts".
