Apple Support request for valid ID?

When booking a support appointment at a UK Apple store to assess a faulty Apple device I was informed that I had to ”Bring a form of personal identification, like a driver’s license, passport, or other government-issued ID.”

This is published on the Apple support website. Obviously I just laughed and said I will not be bringing ID. Apple support then said ok no problem. When I asked why they ask for ID they said it was to make sure i’m over 18? Now this is getting weird. I pointed out that a passport can prove ID but you don’t have to be 18 to get a passport. At this point they then said it was “policy” to ask for ID. We went round in circles for a while until they just repeated “policy.” I can’t believe the Apple store support is “adults only” and asking for ID seems insane. Has anyone been refused support for not having valid ID or for being under 18?

Take the issue up with Apple if you have a question about the policy (Contact - How to Contact Us - Apple). We users can not discuss Apple policy nor do anything about it. You agreed to those terms when you joined these communities.

FWIW, I have no problem providing an ID to get service.
