Logic Pro X - Midi notes wont trigger when played on keyboard

I'm having some issues with midi in Logic Pro X. I have one session that for whatever reason won't play anything when I physically try to play notes via my Axiom midi controller or even when I try to use the "Type to Play" Keyboard feature in Logic.

Everything that already exists within the project plays back fine when I hit the space bar, it just wont let me play new notes. I can draw them in and they play, but that's not what I want to do. I'm not accidentally creating audio tracks, they're definitely midi tracks and when I open a new project, everything works just fine, it's just happening with this one particular project.

Any help on how to fix this would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

There might be a number of reasons for this to happen. I'd check is whether your Software Instrument track is record-enabled. Here's how it should look like when it is, with "R" button in red on the track header:

Also, note the MIDI channel set to "All" which means it will receive MIDI data on all channels. Not a crucial setting, but still worth checking.

If the track is record-enabled, but still receives no MIDI data, then my second guess would be that something went wrong in the Environment (long story short, it's where you're able to customize your external MIDI setup to work with Logic). Open up the Environment (Command+0) and go to the "Click and Ports" layer in the top-left corner of the Environment window. How does it look like? It should look like this (except that in the Physical Input box it should display the name of your MIDI controller, i.e. Axiom):

User uploaded file

Also, press some keys on the Axiom. Does "Input View" display these notes? If it doesn't and something in that Environment layer looks different, please make a screenshot (press Shift+Command+4, then select an area for the screenshot) and post here. But chances are, it's something less complex than that.

JotaGi, you're awesome!

Thank you very much, this solved my problem. You're second guess was correct and the issue was in the Clicks and Ports section. The keyboard (Input Notes) didn't have a connection to the Input View on my end, so I just plugged those guys together and voilá!

This is an old project that I'm needing to open up and finish for a client and I've been banging my head on the wall trying to figure out why it wasn't working. I think I actually came across this problem once before years and years ago, but I very very rarely mess around in the environment/clicks and ports area so it didn't even cross my mind.

Thanks again for the help my friend!
