iMessage location not working but Find My Friends is?

I have my friends location on Find My Friends and usually iMessage but for some reason, it isn't loading on iMessage and only showing on Find My Friends. Any idea why?

Hi LNP2713021,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand that you've previously been able to follow your friend's location in Messages on your iPhone, but you're only seeing their location available in Find My Friends. I know this is an important feature to use; I'd like to help. It's possible that the length of time that your friend chose to share their location has expired; check out the information below:

Share your location from Messages

When you share your location in Messages, your friend can follow you in Messages and Find My Friends.

  1. In the Messages conversation with your friend, tap Details.

  2. Tap Share My Location, then choose how long you want to share your location.

    • If you choose Share for One Hour or Share Until End of Day, you see the time left when you tap Details in the conversation. You also appear in Find My Friends on your friend’s device for the hour or day.

    • If you choose Share Indefinitely, you’re added to Find My Friends on your friend’s device.

Your friend also receives a map with your location in the Messages conversation.

Note: If you turn off Share My Location in Find My Friends, your friends and anyone temporarily following you through Messages won’t be able to see you, because location sharing settings for both Find My Friends and Messages are managed with iCloud.

Find My Friends: Share your location

I'd recommend reaching out to your friend to verify that they're still sharing their location with you in Messages.

Best Regards.
