How do i flip aspect ratio in final cut pro?

I am completely new to the software but i am currently editing footage that was recorded on a camera and i need to crop/resize the image so that it fits a portrait iphone screen as it is for use in an app. Is there any way to flip the aspect ratio to work portraitly without rotating the video? The current aspect ratio is 16:9 and i need 9:16 by cropping the size how do i do this? Ps i apologize if i'm not explaining it very well, as i have said, i am very new to the software and i am yet to understand most of it XD

Thanks for the screenshot. If the clip is 1920x1080 then go into project properties and modify it to 1080x1920. You should then get clips that are letterboxed with black top and bottom. Select the clips and in the inspector change the spatial conform setting from the default Fit to Fill. That should bring the clips to the correct vertical height and crop the sides.

What are you doing with compound clips? If you’re new to the application they’re probably not something you want to be using. Create a project and set a custom size, something like 1080x1920. You can also create custom compound clips if you wish. If you e already done a lot of work before doing this, try modifying the project in the project properties Cmd-J.

I've tried modifying the project but i don't really understand what im looking for. I have attached a picture which i hope will aid describing what i am looking for. I need to some how crop all of the compound clips so that the person interviewed will fit in a portrait iphone screen. The current ratio is 16:9 but i need 9:16 via cropping off the edges. How do i go about doing this?

Okay okay i feel i'm getting somewhere thank you for the reply! However i'm not sure how i change the resolution to 1080x1920 as i am only given a drop down menu consisting of a few choices that don't include 1080x1920.

You sir are a genius! just done what you said and it has worked perfectly! thank you so much for your help, it is really appreciated!! ps I don't suppose there is a way to move the portrait area? the person interviewed is slightly off centre, is there any way that I can centre the new clip resolution?
