Best iPhone data recovery software? (no backup)

I'm looking for a recommendation for a specific iPhone data recovery software, preferably one that someone has had success retrieving photos with after performing a factory reset on an iPhone without a backup.

Embarrassing backstory- I changed the passcode on my iphone 6s a couple days ago. Right after changing it I tried testing the new passcode and was not able to unlock my phone using that code. I frantically tried a few more times in disbelief that I had entered the new code incorrectly or somehow mistaken what I thought I changed it to, and ended up deactivating my touch ID by doing so. I attempted several more versions of what I thought I could have possibly changed it to, got the "1 minute/5 minute/15 minute/1 hour" disabled warnings, and am now at the point where I have one attempt left at guessing this fricken passcode before my phone is disabled indefinitely.

I spoke with Apple support and they informed me that I will have to do a factory reset in order to remove the passcode. I'm fine with wiping the phone, I just want to be able to retrieve my photos/videos as I have a four year old and a six year old (even more reason why I should have been utilizing the cloud, I know, I know), but there are so many data recovery software options and I'm leery of what is legit and what isn't.

Unfortunately the factory reset is my only option since I was not using iCloud, and I did not connect my phone to my laptop at any point over the past two years that I've had it, therefore never backing it up to iTunes. Yes, I know, I'm kicking myself for it now. If anyone has a recommendation for any data recovery software program they have used and had success with I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

iPhone 6s, iOS 11.4

As you have learned, the discussion of backups should be made before a problem. However, with that in mind, I cannot recommend a specific product, but I can tell you that most of the products do not do such a great job and generally will only recover very minimal amounts of data. I've also read others saying that it never seems to recover what they were looking for. The other problem is that anything that would seem to be a better choice can be very expensive.

The decision to move forward with this is up to you. I would try a search of the forum to see what kind of threads you find that discuss recovery software, and take the opinions there with a grain of salt. This is an international public forum, and is used by volunteers, as Apple does not participate here. It is very easy to get "taken" by companies or individuals making statements that cannot be proven. Good luck, since most are not reliable and will not get your data back.

I don't know if I would make the statement that they are all 'legit' as in legitimately perform as advertised. There are over two million apps and games on the store.

You only need to scan a few that say data recovery and look at some of the user reviews. I won’t give the name but a quick search reviews such as:

"Totally useless when you tap "How to Use" the app goes straight to an add for another app that you have to buy. A complete POS, not worth the time it takes to click download much less anymore time from there."
