iOS updates turn Alarm sound to “None”

I’m using iPhone 7, iOS 11.4. This is at least the second time this has happened to me. After an update, my phone alarm stops ringing. I start waking up progressively later, each day trying to make sure my phone volume is up and it’s not set to silent (which I now understand does NOT affect the alarm ringtone, correct?). The first time it took probably a month for me to figure it out, simply because I was just too busy to spend time Googling this problem. This time, it took a week. Now I am wise to the issue, and I will check my alarm sound immediately after every iPhone update, or every night if I have to.

Still, my question is: WHY do iPhone updates automatically and sneakily change my alarm sound to “None”? This is really a terrible feature. Can anyone give me a clue? If it’s not updates the what is it? I never even touch that alarm; it’s a daily alarm. So I know I didn’t change it’s ringtone to None myself.

If this is just one of those Apple things, does anyone have a suggestion for an inexpensive standalone alarm clock? Thanks.

Hi. I bought it new from AT&T 3 months ago. I set it up using the backup from my previous phone, which was 1-2 years old and was an iPhone 5S.

I only have one phone and I only use the alarm on my phone, so this is the only device for which I have experienced the problem. I did not experience it ever with the iPhone 5S.

Thank you for any help you can offer!
