why my external hard drive is not detected on Mac book

Three years is as long as the warranty lasts, so it could just be failing. But first, try to see if it can be repaired:

Repair a disk using Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support

It is old drive three years .. I have used it previously. Now since two months it is giving problems.. it is detected ... but after 5 to 7 minutes later... when I transfer data from my MacBook to it... suddenly connection is lost... showing file is incomplete... can not be copied... thanks ..
