iMessage Badge Icon NOT Showing Red Notifications On iPad

Just purchased new Gen 6 Ipad, installed 11.4 and restored from Cloud everything from another Ipad (Ver.9.3.5). Imessage does not show the Badge App Icon when a message is received on new device. All other Notification settings are ON. Using my other Ipad(Ver. 9.3.5), every thing works properly. The Badge Icon displays a number Do Not Disturb is OFF, did many restarts, to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello again, Ed0342.

You can test what's happening by backing up your iPad and restoring as new.

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Get your device ready

  1. Check that you have the latest version of iTunes on your Mac or PC. If you can't access a computer and your device still works, you can erase and restore your device without a computer.
  2. If you want to save the information on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod, make a backup.
  3. Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud, then turn off Find My iPhone. For an unresponsive device or one that won't turn on, learn what to do. If you forgot your passcode, get help.

Once you've restored, set your iPad up as new, and check to see if the issue persists. If it doesn't you can see if it continues once you restore the backup.

Hope this leads you to a solution.
Have a great day!

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Ed0342!

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your new iPad on iOS 11.4, where you're not getting a notification badge when receiving a new message. I'd be happy to provide any information that may help you resolve this issue.

You may have already checked out the Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch article. I'd like for you to look at this specific section:

Change alert styles and settings for notifications

Customize your notifications with different alert styles so you can quickly act on emails, calendar invites, messages, and more.

To add or change an alert style for a notification, go to Settings > Notifications and select an app. Here are some alert styles that you can choose:

  • Allow Notifications: Turn on to get notifications from the app you selected.
  • Sounds: Have an app play a sound to alert you when you receive a notification.
  • Show on Lock Screen: Turn on to see notifications from the app on your Lock screen.
  • Show in History: See previous notifications from the app you select.
  • Banners: Choose how you want notifications to appear when your device is unlocked. Tap Temporary to have alerts appear on the screen and then go away. Or tap Persistent to have alerts stay on the screen until you act on it.
  • Show Previews: Choose what you want to see when you get a notification, like a text message.

If the issue persists, please do the following: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
You can then reset all settings from Settings > General > Reset.
