Error message: "Some items cannot be added to your photo library because they may be an unrecognizable file format or have invalid data."

I'm working on consolidating all my photos into Photos on my Mac. I take pictures with my iPhone SE and Panasonic Lumix camera (using an SD memory card). I had the photos from my Lumix saved on my computer in file folders (as JPEGs) and have been importing them into folders on Photos. This worked for the first 7-8 folders (working from each month of 2014 on), then I began getting the message: "Some items cannot be added to your photo library because they may be an unrecognizable file format or have invalid data." I tried importing only the jpegs or smaller groups at a time, but I'm getting the same message. I've seen it on the last 5 folders from which I've tried to import photos. What am I doing wrong?

MacBook (Retina,12-inch,2017), iOS 10.1.1, iOS 10.13.5 actually (not a choice)

Which Lumix camera model are you using? Did you shoot RAW files in addition to your JPEGs? Or videos? Photos cannot handle very high resolution AVCHD videos. If you took 4k videos at a frame rate of 60 fps you should convert them to a different format, before importing to Photos.

My camera is a Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX7W 10.1 MP. Think its just jpegs. I didn't think about videos. It stopped importing photos too though. It's odd because it let me import several groups of both photos (jpegs) and videos (the AVCHD you mentioned, I think) and then stopped and wouldn't let me import any more. Could it be because my iCloud was full? or maybe the photos were from a different memory card or something?

Are you using iCloud Photo Library?

Then you must not import more photos until you have increased your iCloud storage or made room in iCloud or your Photos library by moving files out of iCloud .

Better check the settings in your camera. If you are shooting RAW files, Photos will not be able to process them, because LUMIX DMC-LX7W is not on the list of supported cameras,only LUMIX DMC-LX7W: Digital camera RAW formats supported by iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra - Apple Support
