playing Blue ray disc on Mac
got an external Panasonic DVD/blue ray combo disc player, can recognise a blue ray disc when inserted, but cannot play, lack of application? what's missing?

There are very few Mac software Blu-ray video players, and they are limited. They play the streams, but not all of the features and/or interactivity that a set top player would play.
Leawo Blu-ray Player, Macgo Blu-ray Player, DVDFab Media Player, AnyMP4 Blu-Ray Player, Aurora Blu-Ray Media Player, Aiseesoft Blu-Ray Player, to name some, without any special recommendation.
You should use that drive for video disc authoring/burning, and perhaps file archiving, but for playback a set top player is much more pleasant.
