i have used an apple gift card of 40$ so my account have 40$ credit, yet, whenever i try to make a purchase ingame, i get the message "insufficient remaining store credit" before being redirected to the account settings.
I don't understand what's going on, did i miss a step or something?

If you are planing to spend exactly $40 for your purchase, you'll have to have more credit than the exact amount of your purchase, because there might additional fees like taxes, for example.
You may need to add more credit because of sales tax as you would need to account for that.
