How to Extract and Read Messenger, Line and WhatsApp Messages from Local iPhone Backup?

Hi,

I have an iPhone backup (local iTunes, not iCloud) of an old iPhone that later broke. I bought a replacement phone, which I set up as a new iPhone (I did not recover from the backup for various reasons including having less storage space than on the older phone).

I am looking for a way to extract/read Messenger, Line and WhatsApp messages (and ideally also notes and photos) from the local iPhone Backup on my Mac. (I do not need to copy them over or "recover" them to the new iPhone, I just would like to check if anything significant is in there before deleting the backup.)

a) Is there a Mac tool for that? Could also be a Windows tool if need be. I am willing to pay if there is no good free tool. Happy for you to promote your own tool but please declare your interest.

b) Is there any other way of getting the messages/notes/photos from the backup? (e.g., temporarily restoring to a phone of sufficient size, I could borrow one...) How would you approach the issue?

There is no Apple supported way to do what you want. There are third party apps out there that claim to offer this functionally but you'll need to do your own research as that's against the terms of use you agreed to when you signed up for the forum.

Hey Daniel, hope you're doing good.

I hope you that Whatsapp, messenger, and line apps are end to end encrypted, they are not stored in a text format to read in any of the servers and there are no tools too. Once you took as a backup you need to restore and see the messages else you cant do so.

Thank you! Re this point: The messages must be able to be decrypted if you have the password? (as I do) Otherwise, how would the new phone be able to display the messages after a restore?

My mistake in wording. I intended to say that using this forum to recommend third party apps that circumvent iOS security or iOS backup features is against the terms of use.

None of the backup extractor apps or others that move data, like Phoneview or TouchCopy, circumvent iOS security. I don't know what circumventing iOS backup features would mean.
