how to add static picture in a video clip in iMovie?

It seems like all you can do is add a video clip to a video clip as picture in picture. I have to take a video of a static image and then I can add the video but it moves around. So I slowed it way done and that still doesn't look great. I just want to put a static image using the picture in picture functionality.

Is this standard for video editing software? Can final cut pro X do it?

Thanks for any help

Hi, again,

I think that the problem may be is that you have the Ken Burns effect applied to your static photo, and that would cause it to move. Select your overlayed photo and click on the Crop Tool icon in the upper right of your screen (the one that looks like interlocking angles). In the style boxes that appear just below the icon, click on Fit and then click on the blue reset button to the right. That should stop the movement in your Picture in Picture static image.

well - part of the problem is importing an image - imovie lets me import from camera or camera archive?, but the image i want to insert into a clip at a specific time is not one I took on my camera - it's just a .jpg of our product logo that i have on a flash drive. I have been able to get a .jpg image into the project as a full frame image at the front of the video, but it pretty much has to be a video clip if you want to insert it into a video on the timeline using pic in pic.

I have been able to take a video of a static image and insert it using pic-in-pic, and then slow it way down so it doesn't move around too noticeably, but is's still lame compared to just inserting a .jpg.

Thank You Rich, but the reason there is movement in my image is precisely because it is a video, not a still image. In order to insert it into the video clip in the timeline, it has to be a video, not a static image like a .jpg or a .png. there doesn't seem to be any way to put a .jpg or .png into the video clip with pic in pic feature., so that is why I took a video of the static image (in this case it was a physical sticker) and then you can do it. The problem is that the video clip of the sticker has movement because i was holding the camera and even though I was a still as possible it moved.

Getting back to the issue causing all of this - imovie provides no way to use the pic in pic to insert a static .jpg or .png image into the video clip with pic in pic.

I really need that capability and am considering upgrading to Final Cut Pro X but not sure if it's possible there either.

I have been going round and round in the user groups just trying to answer this seemingly simple question; Can you insert a .jpg into a video clip using picture in picture.

Sorry to seem so crabby, but it seems like a simple ask and nobody can tell me definitively.
