virus or hardware or ... ?

hello. i have a client who is a law attorney. she opened up one word file, and POW...it seemed every word file she had opened one after another, then a mac window popped up saying "microsoft word needs to download the font 'osaka'." she did not click on the "download" choice.


she closed all the files and say things are working fine now.


virus? software? hardware? i think that narrows it down User uploaded file. what would be the workflow for this repair, pls?

iMac, iOS 10.3.3

It's a somewhat common message, particularly with Office 2011. It appears to be a bug between this old (and unsupported) version of Office and High Sierra.


Since MS has no intention of ever creating any more fixes or updates for Office 2011, the simplest thing to do is allow it to download the font. Make sure it's activated in Font Book, or whatever font manager you're using. That should solve the problem.


It's either that, or move up to Office 2016. But even that isn't worth it now. Office 2018 is scheduled to be released this fall. You'd be paying for the 2016 version only to pay again for Office 2018.
