QuickTime 7.7.9 for Windows

Hi! I'm trying to install QT on a Win 10 Pro 64-bit machine and having some trouble.

The install makes some progress and then I receive the QuickTime for Windows error "ul_catalog.98cb24ad_52fb_db5f_ff1f_c8b3b9a1e18e not found in cabinet file quicktime.cab. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the cd-rom, or a problem with this package."

I saw a solution on the board, but it seems way over complicated (at least for me). What's the background behind the error? Is there a simple solution out there?

Not sure why you would want to install QuickTime on Windows 10. It is no longer supported. QuickTime 7 was for Vista and 7. Windows 7 and later already have included support for the key media formats, such as H.264 and AAC, that QuickTime 7 enabled.

People have managed to install it anyway, despite the lack of compatibility, by doing the “overcomplicated” steps, as you call it.

Thank you for looking at this Urquhart1244!

We recently installed Corel Video Studio X9. When we drag video clips into the "media" part of the application, we got an error that said we needed to have QT installed.

Corel needed a punch (April 2016) to ‘inform’ their users about their use of outdated technologies. Unfortunately, that message doesn’t link to a solution.

Did you also apply the patches and updates? They may have fixed that (but probably not, knowing Corel)?

Apparently all that is needed are the “QuickTime essentials” from a custom install, i.e. without the player or optional features. (See this YouTube video.)
