Question

Mac os wifi performance is lower than window.

when using the macbook pro to test the Wi-Fi performance with endpoint tool, if using mac OS the performance is 580Mbps, but if windows 10 OS the performance is 620Mbps.

The router CPU load is 100%.

Macbook pro ---- router --------PC

we found that the traffic of the TCP ACK is different.

Mac OS: TCP data/TCP ACK: 580Mpbs/5Mbps

windows OS: TCP data/TCP ACK: 620Mpbs/2Mbps

I have tried to adust the parameter, there is no use.

net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack

The mac OS send too more TCP ACK, leading to the router cpu load.

Please modify the mechanism of tcp ack.

Yes, the router's CPU is not power enough. but the same hardware, the windows OS performance is higher than mac OS(or linux). that's the problem.

if the mac OS could send the same TCP ACK as windows, that's better.

I do believe you’ve done some digging and let’s say you’re right about the cause. I think there’s a reason why MacOS works in this way. In my personal experience, the Mac network performance is more stable than windows... and I can get up to 35 MB/s (mega bytes per second) transmission speed in my LAN setup.

My point is that the machnsim you mentioned may be implemented intentionally and there’re benefits that outruns the (a little bit) worse performance with old(not so strong) routers.

I am doing maximum performance testing for the router. I use the macbook pro to test, because the wireless card of macbook pro is powerful enough, it can reach more performance with the router.

Now, not all the router is powerful enough, for the more performance we must install windows in macbook pro.

In my options, it is possible to configure the network parameter to modify the problem.

in addition, why is the Mac network performance more stable than windows? In my lab, Whether it is windows or mac os， it is easy to get up to 580Mbos(72 MB/s).

Isn't it a router problem when 580Mbps(~6MB/s if I understand you correctly) could drain all the CPU resources?
