Safari will not load the Minecraft.net website

I have a 5 year old obsessed with Minecraft and I want to download the Java version (as he calls it, the “real” version) of Minecraft onto our Mac for him. (Currently he just plays the app.) I understand the steps, have an account at Minecraft, etc. My problem is that I cannot get the Minecraft.net site to load! Safari notes that it cannot securely connect to the address. I’ve checked out and tried the recommendations from others regarding clearing caches, disabling firewalls, etc. when Safari issues this error, but I’m still at a loss. Any guidance would make for a happy 5 year old (and mom)!
