Longmans toefl application

Some older installers are still using PowerPC code and cannot run on Intel Macs.

Sometimes it is possible to extract the programs from the package manually, witout running the installer. I have to do this, when I want to reinstall the old Jam Packs fro GarageBand. It will only work, however, if the software to be installed are universal binaries and not PowerPC code as well.

There are two main steps there, in Step 1, the last part 6 it states:

"Do not open the software, proceed to step 2.

Note: Opening the software will generate an error message."

So don't open the software and go to Step 2.

Did you follow those steps?

Could you do a get info [ command + i ] on the "Longman iBT Installer'' icon.

Where did you get the cd? Does this cd go with a longman book?

I think you have the longman book with cd.

You may need to get the 2014 version, 3rd edition of the book.

the second addition came out in 2007, which was the era of the powerpc based apps.

note: I saw on reference to longman cd version publish in 2012. I suspect this was a reformulated version of the 2007 book.

The least hassle is to buy the third edition. Another approach, would be to get a virtual machine like the free parallels for home user and install mac os 10.6 or windows in the box. You would need to buy the 10.6 server addition which includes support for powerpc apps. [ I'm guess you have a powerpc app. ]

playonmac

Playonmac is a version of the open source Wine app. Wine simulates the Windows APIs. This isn't as robust as Oracle's Virtual Box or the free Parallels which require you to install the full windows.

They are the only ones that can let you know about hardware/software requirements to use their software. The link I found was for Pearson publishing. You should get a response from them, I use some of their textbooks at the college where I teach. If this is a school requirement, then someone at the school's bookstore should have a contact.

I would recheck that warning you received, to ensure there is not more to it. You say "some warning" like that may not be the exact text of the warning. Either way, it has to be supported by the company that sells it. Keep trying.

I suggest you pose that question to the software developer. It would explain the requirements for the application.

Let me see if I can find someone that can address that error on the Mac, and maybe they can help, since the company's support is not responding. Watch for additional responses here.
