USB wired keyboard not working IMac

I have an apple wired keyboard for my Mac and a Macally mouse. They've worked fine up until about 2 days ago. All of a sudden the keyboard has stopped working, but the mouse still moves. So I moved the plugs into different ports and it fixed. The problem reoccured, but moving the plugs didn't work, so I restarted the computer. Sometimes the mouse doesn't work at all now, and sometimes the mouse works but the keyboard doesn't. I've tried just about everything; I know all of my usb ports function correctly. Everyone says to use a USB extension cable (which I have and it isn't working). I've even restarted the computer multiple times. I can't even get into my computer right now, so I would greatly appreciate any help!

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Reset the SMC 2-3 times back to back with other peripherals connected and then retry.

Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and check to see if there's any improvement. Reboot normally and check again.

FIX: After using two different wired apple keyboards, still both didn't work. I used my friends apple bluetooth keyboard and it worked fine, but I didn't want to have to buy one, and I just prefer wired keyboards. So, I just found a windows HP keyboard laying around. I plugged it in and now everything works fine. Strange fix, but it worked.

Plug the keyboard directly to the Mac and not a hub.

Tried it out because other people said it fixed their issue, but the keyboard is still unresponsive. My hub is not broken because I even tried to plug my hard drive into it and it works fine.
