Need help reinstalling AOL mail on Iphone 6s

I changed my AOL mail password, then attempted to update my mail settings with the new password on both my ipad pro and iphone 6s, both running current ios 11.4.1. I received error message “the user name or password for imap.aol.com is incorrect”. I am able to sign in with the SAME user name and new password via AOL app and via aol.com. I deleted my AOL mail and tried reinstalling AOL mail thru auto install and manual install using installation instructions from Apple. Still no luck. Any words of wisdom out there?
