2018 Macbook Pro - Can't reinstall OS via recovery - special build 17G2112 of 10.13.6 not yet posted

Friendly Warning: It seems Apple has yet to post the special build version of 10.13.6 for the new 2018 Macbook Pro. The new laptops require build 17G2112 of 10.13.6. Should you decide to erase the hard disk and re-install via recovery mode (as I did), the High Sierra installer will error out with, "Installation of macOS could not continue." "Installation requires downloading important content. That content can't be downloaded at this time. Try again later."

I checked the catalog, and the only 10.13.6 that is currently posted is build 17G65. I now have a brick...

Maybe someone from Apple read my post, or it's just dumb luck, but I checked the software update catalog just now and the special 17G2112 version for the 2018 MBPT is now available, and recovery is now working.

Why on a brand new 2018 would you decide to erase a SSD and macOS?

Take it in to get back on track:

We got one of these MacBook Pro 2018 models and it was playing up, so we were told to reinstall the OS from Apple. I have been unsuccess in reinstalling it so far. When I try to use a USB key to install, I end up with a dialog saying "A software update is required to use this startup disk" with the options Update or set a new Startup Disk. When I click Update, it goes through the motions and then boots with an invalid boot volume.

I've tried to do a recovery via the Internet, but those hang about half-way through the process and it currently says it's going to wait 24 hours.
