Seagate hard drive not showing in finder and also in disk utility

PLEASE HELP.

When I'm connecting my seagate hard drive to my macbook air, it lights up. Meaning my HD is working. But it is not showing either in finder or in disk utility. I don't know what to do. I have very important files inside my hard drive. Please help me.

I have another seagate hard drive and when I tried inserting it to my macbook air, the HD was read by my mac. So I really think the problem is my other hard drive. What to do next?

MacBook Air, iOS 11.4.1, null

Hi buffayphoebe,

Are you sure that the drive is actually alive? Although the indicator light may come on, that has to do with the firmware inside the external drive casing (indicating that the enclosure is receiving power), not necessarily the drive itself.

Try doing the following while your external drive is connected:

  1. Open Terminal, which is located in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder.
  2. Execute diskutil list to list all drives, partitions and volumes connected to your Mac.

If you don't see your external drive listed in the output, unfortunately there's a likely chance that the drive has died.
