when opening
When opening a numbers file i get the message that it is invalid and that The index.xml file is missing. What do I need to do to open the numbers file?

Make sure you are trying to open the document with the latest version of Numbers (the one that is in your main Applications folder, not the one that is in a subfolder within the Applications folder). You can see the version within the app by going to Numbers > About Numbers in your menu.
Once you've made sure it is the latest version, then open the document via File > Open.
