how to hook up Sony blue ray via a hdmi cable and get it to work

I have an apple tv4k hooked up to Sony tv and am attempting to attach a Samsung DVD player to it. I attached the hdmi cables to both and yet I can't figure out how to make it play on the tv. obviously doing something wrong or not completing all steps,,help please

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), iphoto09 version 8.1.2

I think you have to connect each player to a HDMI port on the TV (or to a receiver, if you have that in your setup). Then you have to select a certain HDMI port as input. To view Apple TV content, switch to the HDMI port for Apple TV (using the TV remote; INPUT button probably). To view DVD/Blu-ray content, switch to the HDMI port for the Blu-ray player (using the TV remote). The TV probably has 4 HDMI ports, to hook up up to 4 devices to it. Some ports may be more capable than others (e.g. 4K 60 Hz); refer to the TV manual.
