oSX system reinstall checklist

Intention is to reformat hard drive & reinstall oSX.

Keen to make sure this takes as little time as possible, as I know it can be a tedious and time consuming experience.

I don’t intend to do a full restore, but use the opportunity to do a spring clean and start from scratch, only installing on a “needs” basis, so as to avoid taking any potential old dross with me.

I have both Time Machine backup / Carbon Copy clone / additional backup and a separate copy of certain user files. iTunes files are on an external hard drive also backed up. Almost all passwords are managed outside of KeyChain, exception of Apple stuff and certificates.

I figure there are 4 stages: Prep' / Decommission / Reinstall oSX / Install Files

What have I missed & what to look out for? *denotes I'm OK with / ?? denotes I'm unsure about.

Any advice appreciated.

If you restore your user, the keychain items and the Photos Library should restore. The data should also be in your backups. If you are syncing both with iCloud, they should restore when you set that up. Same for Contacts and Calendars. Bookmarks should also be in your user folder. Email files should also be in your user folder.

Plugins and extensions may have to be restore/downloaded again depending where they are stored in the system.

Looks like a good plan.
