My MacBook Pro 2018 version speakers are crackling.

Hello. A few days ago I got the new MacBook Pro 2018 15in version. I’ve noticed since yesterday that my MacBook Pro speakers were crackling randomly. I’m not sure if since this is a new release that there are bugs in the software or if it’s an actual defect. Because before yesterday, I haven’t experienced this issue. I resetted the NVRAM and did a diagnostics test with no issues. After about 10 minutes of use that’s when it does it. Then stops. I think I might hopefully but not hopefully have to get it replaced since it’s under the warranty still. I did nothing to it. So this is dissapointing to me.

Sorry, I thought Haunts referred to a prior update, but it seems Haunts referred to Supplemental Update 2 for MacBook Pro 2018 that was published 29th August 2018. I have to perform a long-term test after this update. Let’s hope it fixed the issue once and for all. Why does Apple not disclose if the issue was addressed in the update instead of having us test?

Just a quick little something I noticed...

I updated earlier tonight. Decided to watch a movie, and noticed the screen flickers quickly, every 5-10 minutes. Is anyone interested in testing this out as well, and keeping an eye out for it? To clarify, AFTER the update, screen flickering occurs while watching a movie (ON ITUNES).

I have watched movies previously on this computer (2018 MacBook Pro 13 inch) through iTunes, and never noticed this issue until tonight.

I will note however, there has been no speaker issues whatsoever during this movie. (Avengers: Infinity War -- so, a fairly long test 😉)

Hey everyone!

So today i picked my 2nd replacement laptop as i really took it to Apple. I was in touch with senior advisors and basically today when i went into my local apple shop i was treated really well and they gave me my new laptop and even gave me a $250 refund to apologise for everything. I took it upon myself today to start my new laptop from scratch and right now i have not heard any crackling. I am slowly but surely adding all the applications i need and sorting everything out but touching wood cause i havent heard anything yet.

If anybody wanted my advice i would strongly recommend you keep super calm and collective and express your "un satisfying taste" towards your new laptop and just see what apple says. as i said before , not sure if this is the final fix yet but im hoping to **** it is cause this has been going on since the first release of the 2018 mac book pros.

Hope this helps <3

Hi Mike, can you please let me know if you get any issue again, i still have 5 days more to return my macbook pro i5 2018, or make complain about it again, this is my second macbook i already went returned the other one the got the same issue then this.

im really upset about this problem, one because they don't give me any resolve and the other reason because i pay almost two thousand dollar.

I have to say that unfortunately for Apple they have left a bad image on my family. My daughter, who uses Macs in school for tv production, received one of these as a very (very) special birthday gift two weeks ago from her grandmother. We took it back yesterday for a full refund over the ongoing sound issues. The Apple rep in Best Buy said they never heard of the issue. It was very disheartening over the sound issues and not a word from Apple corporate acknowledging the issues. For the premium paid for such a product the customer should at least be given such a courtesy. So we’re now waiting for something formal from Apple on this, and hopefully this will be read as we’ve now missed out on the sale and student discount that was part of our purchase. We decided to return it until the issue is fully documented to understand if any software ‘fix’ impacts performance on the premium laptop.

I'm from Russia, I bought a MacBook Pro 15, 2018 24 August, and I also had this problem with the sound, after 30-40 minutes of work in Adobe Premiere.

I read a lot of complaints and tips on the Internet and took advantage of one of them: changed the MIDI keyboard settings from 44.00 to 48.00

Then I installed the recent update # 2 for MacBook Pro 2018.

And now this problem is no longer on my laptop.

Can assume that this problem is someone could damage speakers or sound card. And if after the update you continue to have problems with the sound, it is possible that something in your laptop is spoiled because of the problem.

And those who have everything fixed with the update, so they did not have time to deteriorate.

But this is only my personal speculation.

I am running 10.13.6 on a 2.9 GHz i9 with 32GB RAM.

Same issue, about half hour into routine use but variable. First time it occurred is one month after purchase.

I thought it was the song at first but it's across platforms. Re-booting or closing the app solves the issue, but oddly enough I am able to exacerbate it by gently rubbing my palm down the speakers. Even subtle pressure augments the sound.

I went through 3 13" MacBook Pros w/TB i5, and they had horrible issue when I ran Logic Pro X. The whole system went wild with stuttering and crackling and it got worse and worse. Nearly 2 weeks ago I changed it for an i7 13" and the problem will still come around with Logic Pro X... but--it barely happens, if quick, and it vanishes when Logic Pro X is closed up. So n o need to reboot or play games to get the system to behave after using Logic Pro X.

I did put in a complaint, to mark it in case of return or repair, but it is fairly acceptable with the i7.

Is it the i7 that helps? Is it just this laptop? No idea, but that's my experience.

Have bought new MBP 2018 15" with touch bar.

One week later discovered that I have terrible noise while playing iTunes music, typically after 30-40 minutes of playing.

I've brought MBP to official service center and they didn't find any hardware problems.

Official answer is "in OS 10.13 high sierra there's a lot of software problems which have no hardware roots and probably will be solved with new software releases".

That means - we know that you have troubles, we can do nothing with that.

After recovering from backup still have these issues.

Probably I will return this new laptop to apple.com/ru where I have bought it.

My old MBP-2013 works well at the same software configuration - no problems at all.

I am having an issue with my 13' MBP 2018 also. Its a minor problem, but its still a very annoying problem about the weird noise from the speaker. Whenever I skip videos in Youtube/MPlayerX or any other player using the left/right key on the keyboard, there will always be a weird click (crackle) noise which never happens in my old MBP. I know this is definitely not a issue with the video player or Safari because this weird click noise (crackle) also happens when I press Esc key on a program sometimes. If anyone have a fix to this, please reply to my email.

My MacBook Pro 2018 version speakers are crackling.
